MEMORY LANE

So it was a sunny day in the Small City of Auchi Edo state i was just in Primary 3 or 4 can’t really remember. We had our mid term test the Previous day when I did the unthinkable during the Test, so after finishing up my Paper I took the Paper of one of my classmates and also helped in writing his Test not for any Monetary gain but just of the satisfaction and Euphoria it gave me.

It was a known norm in my School that on the next day the Person with the highest scores would be announced during the Assembly gathering and there will be some form of appraisal citing the Person as an Example.. 

So on that faithful day after the normal assembly routine my name was enunciated I was invited to come to the front since I was used to being called upfront after various Tests this was no news to me and I never saw the looming danger. I took my steps majestically with my Chest wide spread out like a Peacock  who had just saw his long lost bride, as I walked to the front, I was asked to faced the Assembly and then came the unmasking.

Men und brethren instead of the normal glorifying appraisal I was used to, i was used as an Example of bad vices and do not follow traits, I wished for the ground to open for me to be swallowed in, My yesterday smart moves has cut up with me the faces staring at me and the laughs, Those that were waiting for far to long to get back at me due to my Know it all show of they all saw their Opportunity I thought, how do I get out of this mess this thought Keeping ringing in my head like the Struck of a Gong, cause I knew this wouldn’t just end with the Speeches.

After the long speeches from the Assembly Master i was to receive Twelve strokes of Cane as Punishment for my smart moves, A then Teacher who has an ungratifying PhD degree in Flogging was invited to carry out the ritual. Funny enough I was one of his Favourites student but on this day his Facial mien denoted no expression of Knowing who I was, I said slowly to my self I would take this as a Pro and shame my Enemies, The Said Teacher had a Peculiar way of Flogging Students at that Time, ones head had to go in between his Two legs, only then does he have the satisfaction appeal of dealing graciously with ones rear-End applying all

Form of Frustration.

As I walked toward him I thought about it, which  to endure first the Smell emitting From beyond or the Pain from the Canes, i had Promise myself not to give my fellow students the satisfaction of seeing me Cry.

My both Lips were tightly sealed and motions on my Skins were brought to a Still as I received the Canes like a Pro,  I held out from crying my lips were sealed and my chest was heavy and high as I walked back to the Assembly. the Assembly was immediately Dismissed and I rushed out to the Convenient, carefully watching out if I was Followed. Immediately I was in I gave out a weird Loud cry even to my own stupefaction I could hear the giggling and laughs coming from outside. Odogwu has fallen For the rest of the day my head was seen facing downwards. The Excitement I had while being in school and satisfying I had while answering Questions in Class was far from me on that Day.
